Hurricane PreparednessAs much as we are hoping to sing "Goodbye Earl", we are watching the path of Hurricane Earl quite closely.  For the latest on Earl's path and what to do in case of a hurricane, here are a couple of links: Canadian Hurricane Centre             United States National Hurricane Centre            Tips on how to prepare for a hurricane
For the latest weather, please visit Environment Canada's site. which will also have details of any weather watches or warnings in effect.
The ocean is beautiful and undoubtedly awe-inspiring during inclement weather.  But she is also extremely dangerous.  We would ask that if you must venture out to the shore line during rough seas that you maintain a safe distance.  Don't stand too close as rogue waves have been known to sweep people off into the water during storms.

Beach Meadows 2Queens County is home to many pristine white sand beaches and are a source of wonder and serenity.  The steel blue waves lapping against the shore gently wash your cares away as you walk past.  Click here for a complete listing of Queens County Beaches Please note facilities and services available at each location and plan accordingly.  Some of our finest beaches are protected.  Please help us maintain these natural treasures by respecting the flora and fauna.  Leave only footsteps.

Starry, starry night...

Did you know?  That Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada has just been declared a Dark Sky Preserve?  The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada awards this designation to areas in which no artificial lighting is visible and "active measures are in place to educate and promote the reduction of light pollution to the public and nearby municipalities.  Sky glow from beyond the borders of the Preserve will be of comparable intensity, or less, to that of natural sky glow".  www.rasc.ca.    For more information on the skies in Nova Scotia, click here to go to the Society's Nova Scotia site.  If you are out at Keji, you can download monthly star charts here to help you identify the diamonds in the sky.
